Screen Sharing and Whiteboard

You might want to visually show something to the students - a presentation, your desktop or maybe a digital whiteboard.

This is done through the green “Share screen” icon at the bottom menu of the Zoom window.

When you press the icon, you get to choose what to share. The topmost alternatives will be your screen(s) and the Whiteboard, and below that you’ll be able to choose individual applications.

When sharing, you will see a thin green frame around the shared screen or application.

Computer sound

By default, you share your screen only, and the students will not hear your media or system sounds. If you need to share screen together with sound, there is a checkbox for this in the bottom left of the dialoge box when you start sharing.

Who can share?

By default, any participant can share their screen. If this causes problems for your class, you can disable this option for anyone but yourself:

  1. In the Zoom controls, click the ^ arrow next to Share Screen and choose Advanced Sharing Options.
  2. Under “Who can share?” choose Only Host.

Annotation

While screensharing, move your pointer to the green “You are screen sharing” ribbon, and the Zoom controls will appear. Choose the pen with the text “Annotate” and you can write, draw or use any whiteboard functionality (see below).

Whiteboard

Take a few minutes to familiarize with the digital whiteboard. You can write, draw, stamp, erase, undo, redo and highlight whatever content you currently want focus on.

Please note that you are not the only one that can draw on the whiteboard. You can, however, erase what your viewers have written and leave your own content.
